این سوسک پادراز و باهوش یک روش منحصربه فرد برای بقا در صحرای خشک و دو‌ر افتاده نامیبیا، واقع در جنوب غربی آفریقا، دارد. صحرای نامیبیا، یکی از بزرگ‌ترین و قدیمی‌ترین صحراهای جهان است.
این سوسک‌ها منتظر می‌شوند تا مه موجود در هوا به قطرات آب تبدیل شده و بر روی بدن آن‌ها بشیند. با گذشت زمان آب آرام آرام به سمت پایین غلتیده و مانند یک نوشیدنی وارد دهان سوسک می شود. رژیم غذایی اصلی این سوسک‌ها را دانه‌هایی که به وسیله باد جابجا می‌شوند و تکه‌های جدا شده از گیاهان تشکیل می‌دهند.
